How it runs

A live practical workshop, not a slide read

You learn each part of ISO/IEC 42001:2023 from the official PECB curriculum, then you work through it in live scenarios. Shenoy shares what he sees in the field after 20 years in cybersecurity and 10 years in enterprise AI, AI governance and data protection.

What you do in the sessions

  • Learn the requirement and the PECB implementation approach
  • Work through live scenarios and decide how you would implement it in an AI management system
  • Practise AI risk and impact assessment on realistic AI systems
  • See how you may be audited and what evidence you would need to show
  • Use the toolkit templates to draft the documents an AIMS needs
  • Ask questions and get answers during the session

The sessions at a glance

5live sessions on Microsoft Teams
3 hrseach, with some running 30 to 60 minutes longer
+ moreextra sessions added when you need them
100%of sessions recorded for you

Our goal is that you finish confident. If a topic needs more time, we add sessions rather than rush it.

Who you learn with

Sessions are private 1-on-1 or a small batch. Shenoy manages a team of consultants in the GRC advisory practice that reconn delivers. Once in a while a team member joins a session to share what they see on current projects.

Before you buy: how to avoid look-alike "PECB" programs

Some sellers use PECB's name without PECB's authorization, or sell a different certificate that looks similar. Check these six things before you pay anyone for a PECB course.

  1. Ask for PECB authorization in writing. You can confirm it with PECB at support@pecb.com.
  2. Ask for the exact credential name in writing. It should read "PECB Certified ISO/IEC 42001 Lead Implementer", issued by PECB.
  3. Check where you study and where you sit the exam. You study through MyPECB and take the exam on the PECB Exams app.
  4. Ask what is included and for how long. Exam attempts, the certification application and the first-year AMF should be in the package, with the window stated.
  5. Ask who your trainer is. You should have direct access to a named trainer, and you should know for how long.
  6. Treat these as red flags. A "guaranteed pass" claim, or pressure to switch to an "equivalent" program, is a reason to walk away.
The reconn difference

The same official PECB certification, with a PECB Certified Trainer behind you: live 1-on-1 and small-batch sessions, extra sessions when you need them, and email and WhatsApp support until you clear the exam.

Included with live online

Includes the Reconn ISO 42001 AIMS Implementation Toolkit

What the toolkit is

The toolkit is 50+ editable Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents covering all the documented information ISO/IEC 42001:2023 explicitly requires, plus the policies, procedures, registers and AI-specific controls that go beyond the minimum. Every document comes as a blank template and as a completed version for one fictional company running several AI systems.

What is inside

  • Governance
  • AI system inventory and intake
  • Risk
  • AI system impact assessment
  • Statement of Applicability, covering all Annex A controls
  • AI lifecycle and data
  • Responsible use
  • Third parties
  • Monitoring and incidents
  • Assurance
  • Readiness tools, including a gap assessment and Stage 1 and 2 checklist
  • Presentations
  • Interview preparation pack with practical examples and talking points

Benefits

  • Start from structured documents instead of a blank page
  • Follow a real-life scenario from the first scope statement to management review
  • See how the policies, registers, risk and impact assessments and Statement of Applicability connect
  • Prepare for interviews with practical examples

How to use it

  1. Learn the requirement in the live session.
  2. Open the blank template and the completed version side by side.
  3. Tailor the documents to your own organisation and AI systems.
  4. Have your organisation approve and implement them.

Who it is for

Every candidate on the PECB ISO 42001 Lead Implementer live online course with reconn. It is useful if you build or run AI systems, advise others on AI governance, or want a worked reference for your own AIMS.

The toolkit provides implementation aids and editable templates. Your organisation must tailor, approve and implement them. Use of the toolkit does not itself guarantee ISO/IEC 42001 conformity or certification, and it is not legal advice or evidence of compliance with any law or regulation.

Reconn ISO 42001 Lead Implementer mind map

Every PECB ISO 42001 live online and eLearning enrolment with reconn includes our mind map, a quick review of the important topics in the PECB ISO/IEC 42001 Lead Implementer course.

What it is

A reconn mind map, delivered as a PDF. It shows the important topics of the course on one connected picture, so you can see how context and scope, the AI policy, AI risk and impact assessment, controls and the Statement of Applicability, operations, and audit and improvement fit together in an AI management system.

How it helps you prepare

  • Quick review: go back over the important topics in minutes.
  • See the connections: understand how context, leadership, AI risk, controls, audit and improvement link up.
  • Revise after each session: check what you covered and note what to raise with your trainer.
  • Remember more: a visual structure is easier to recall than long text.
  • Explain it clearly: a clear picture of the AIMS helps you talk about it in interviews.

How to use it

  1. Look at the mind map before a session to see where the topic fits.
  2. Review it after the session and mark anything you want to revisit.
  3. Come back to it for a quick review of the important topics whenever you need one.

When you get it

Live online learners receive it during the live sessions. eLearning learners receive it after enrolment.

License and use

The mind map is a PDF licensed to one user and is meant for PECB candidates only. Please do not share, copy or resell it.

The mind map is a study aid. It supports your learning and does not guarantee any result.

Real-world practice

Practise it like the real thing

The course puts you where you will be at work. You think through how to implement the AI management system, how you may be audited, and what evidence an auditor will expect to see.

What you work through

  • AI system impact assessment and how its results feed your controls
  • Building the Statement of Applicability and justifying your choices
  • Setting monitoring, incident handling and review in place
  • Preparing for internal audit and a certification audit

From the field

Shenoy shares field experience from AI governance work, including AI risk and impact assessment challenges. Members of his GRC consulting team occasionally join a session to share what they are seeing on live projects.

Scenarios are realistic examples for learning. They are not legal advice.

A note from the founder

Shenoy Sandeep, Founder of reconn

If you are reading this, you are about to learn ISO/IEC 42001, and you probably have a lot of questions. That is a good place to start.

I moved into training because I felt most training providers were slide readers with no practical experience. I teach these courses myself, as a full-time practitioner who also runs reconn as an Applied AI and cybersecurity advisory firm.

In our sessions we work through how to implement an AI management system, how you may be audited and what evidence you will need to show. I share what I see in AI governance work, including the hard parts of AI risk and impact assessment.

I manage a team of consultants in the GRC advisory practice that reconn delivers. Once in a while a team member joins a session to share what they are seeing on live projects.

PECB sets and grades the exam, so I cannot promise you a result. What I can promise is my time and attention: unlimited email and WhatsApp support until you clear the exam, within 12 months of enrolment.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

About the course

What is the PECB ISO 42001 Lead Implementer live online course?

It is a live online training and practical workshop with 1-on-1 mentoring on implementing an AI management system (AIMS) based on ISO/IEC 42001:2023. PECB Certified Trainer Shenoy Sandeep delivers it in five live sessions of about 3 hours each on Microsoft Teams, and every session is recorded.

Who is this course for?

It suits compliance, risk, security and AI governance professionals, managers and engineers who build or run AI systems, consultants who advise on AI governance, and professionals who want to move into AI governance.

Are there any prerequisites?

PECB lists general knowledge of the AIMS and ISO/IEC 42001 as the prerequisite, and the sessions build on it. To claim the Lead Implementer credential after the exam, PECB also reviews your professional experience.

What will I be able to do after the course?

You will be able to plan an AIMS project, scope it, run AI risk and impact assessment, build the Statement of Applicability, select and implement controls, monitor and improve the AIMS, and prepare an organisation for a certification audit.

How is the Lead Implementer course different from the Lead Auditor course?

The Lead Implementer course teaches you to build and run an AIMS. The Lead Auditor course teaches you how an AIMS is audited. The second package combines the live online Lead Implementer course with the PECB ISO 42001 Lead Auditor eLearning course.

Does ISO/IEC 42001 certification make an organisation legally compliant?

No. ISO/IEC 42001 is a management system standard. Certification does not by itself confer compliance with any law or regulation, and this course is not legal advice.

Live online sessions and schedule

How many sessions are there and how long are they?

There are five live sessions of about 3 hours each. Some sessions run 30 to 60 minutes longer when the discussion needs it, and we add extra sessions when you need them, because the goal is that you finish confident.

What time do the sessions run?
