What Is the ISA/IEC 62443 Lead Implementer Certification?

The ISA/IEC 62443 Lead Implementer is a PECB certification that trains professionals to design, implement, and manage a security program for Industrial Automation and Control Systems (IACS) based on the ISA/IEC 62443 series of standards. The course covers core IACS security principles alongside the practical application of the standard — including risk assessment, zone and conduit segmentation, and security program implementation — and includes access to more than 400 pages of official PECB training material. Certification is earned by passing an exam that tests both foundational IACS knowledge and your ability to apply the ISA/IEC 62443 framework in a real operational environment.

Why Is IACS Security Important for You?

Industrial Automation and Control Systems sit at the core of critical infrastructure — energy, manufacturing, water, transportation — and a security failure there can mean physical, operational, and safety consequences, not just data loss. As OT and IT environments converge, organizations need professionals who understand how to secure these systems without disrupting the processes they run. Earning this certification positions you as someone who can lead that effort: managers and engineers use it to formalize their IACS security expertise, risk and security practitioners use it to specialize in an increasingly in-demand field, and professionals moving into industrial cybersecurity use it to gain a structured, standards-based methodology from day on

Benefits of PECB ISA/IEC 62443 Certification

Holding a PECB ISA/IEC 62443 Lead Implementer credential signals globally recognized, standards-based expertise in industrial cybersecurity — something few certifications address directly. It qualifies you to lead IACS security implementation projects, strengthens your standing for OT/ICS security, risk, and compliance roles, and earns 31 CPD credits toward maintaining other professional certifications. Because it's issued by PECB and delivered by reconn as an authorized training provider, you get the same globally accepted certification as any other PECB partner, backed by official courseware, exam vouchers, and direct trainer access — without the premium pricing typically attached to live/onsite delivery.

Meet Your Trainer

From the Frontlines of Cybersecurity to the Frontier of AI. A Mission with Meaning

Customer Success First, everything else is space debris

With 20+ years of hands-on cybersecurity experience, 10+ in AI and 10+ in BCMS,  I’ve seen it all, offensive security, defensive architecture, GRC, AI Governance, BCMS implementation and incident response.

That background gave me the discipline. But it was AI that reignited the curiosity.

Since 2018, I’ve been working on data science, building my own ML pipelines, tweaking algorithms, and using tools like Python, Elastic, Hugging Face, and early LLM platforms, not just for fun, but to solve real problems.

By 2021, I was leading a Y Combinator backed AI-powered Cyber Threat intelligence vendor that rose to the top across the Middle East, Turkey and Africa market.

When I launched reconn, I finally got to implement AI end-to-end  not just study it, but use it in the field, where it counts.

Now, I bring that same field-tested clarity into every product, service and training that i represent.

Why This Course Hits Different

PECB has done a brilliant job crafting a solid structure, curriculum, and exam process. But let’s be real — a trainer can make or break the experience.

This isn’t a “slide hero” show.

This is an immersive, real-world, and highly customized training experience — delivered live, based on who’s in the room.

I’ve fine-tuned the program to ensure AI makes sense to everyone:

  • If you’re from tech, we’ll go deep into tools, terminologies, and application.
  • If you’re from non-tech, we’ll break it down without condescension — just clarity.

You won’t leave this course confused or overwhelmed. You’ll leave confident.

No fluff. No filler. Just real learning, real examples, and a globally respected certification to prove you’ve done the work.

Mission Briefing: Inside the ISA/IEC 62443 Lead Implementer Journey

Who it's for, what you'll learn, how it works — mapped out for your success.

Why should you attend the ISA/IEC 62443 Lead Implementer Training course?

IACS environments sit behind critical infrastructure and industrial operations, where a security gap can mean physical and safety consequences, not just downtime or data loss. This course gives you a standards-based methodology to design and lead an IACS security program from the ground up, backed by a globally recognized PECB credential. It's built for professionals who want to move from general security knowledge into a specialized, in-demand discipline — and stand out for OT/ICS security roles that most cybersecurity training doesn't touch.

Who should attend the ISA/IEC 62443 Lead Implementer Training course?

The course is designed for managers, engineers, and consultants responsible for implementing IACS security programs, as well as risk managers and security practitioners working across industrial automation and control systems. It's also well suited to professionals transitioning into IACS cybersecurity roles who want a structured, methodology-driven foundation. A general working knowledge of IACS concepts and the ISA/IEC 62443 standard is recommended before starting.

What are the Learning Objectives of the ISA/IEC 62443 Lead Implementer Training Course?

By the end of the course, you'll be able to:

Explain the fundamental concepts and principles of an IACS security program based on the ISA/IEC 62443 series of standards. Interpret ISA/IEC 62443 requirements, recommendations, and technical reports from the perspective of an implementer. Manage threats by implementing security controls, assessing maturity, securing assets and supply chains, and planning patching. Design and maintain an IACS security program aligned with ISA/IEC 62443, assess and manage risks, and define clear security roles and responsibilities. Provide ongoing security awareness and training, monitor IACS environments for threats, conduct regular security testing, and respond swiftly to incidents.

How does the ISA/IEC 62443 Lead Implementer self-study experience look like?

The self-study format lets you work through the official PECB courseware — more than 400 pages of training material, including practical examples, exercises, and quizzes — at your own pace, on your own schedule, with no fixed classroom hours to attend.

You get same-day access to the MyPECB platform after enrollment, so you can start immediately, revisit modules as needed, and pace your preparation around your work commitments rather than a live training calendar.

Mission Specs: Everything You Need to Navigate Your Certification Path

From course modules to exam prep, certification criteria to logistics — get a clear map of your ISA/IEC 62443 journey before launch.

Prerequisites

A general working knowledge of IACS concepts and the ISA/IEC 62443 standard is recommended before starting. No specific prior certification is mandatory to enroll — this makes the course accessible to professionals moving into IACS security from adjacent IT, OT, or general cybersecurity backgrounds, as long as you're comfortable with foundational industrial automation and control systems terminology going in.

Course Overview: ISA/IEC 62443 Lead Implementer Training Course

The course trains you to plan, implement, manage, monitor, and maintain an IACS security program aligned with the ISA/IEC 62443 series of standards, structured across five modules:

Day 1 covers the foundations of ISA/IEC 62443 and IACS security.

Day 2 covers security requirements, maturity models, and the threat landscape.

Day 3 covers establishing and managing an IACS security program.

Day 4 covers training, incident response, and sector-specific standards.

Day 5 is the certification exam.

In the self-study format, you move through this same structured content at your own pace rather than on a fixed daily schedule, backed by more than 400 pages of official PECB training material with practical examples, exercises, and quizzes.

Examination

The exam is included in your training fee and tests your understanding across two competency domains: fundamental IACS security principles and the practical application of ISA/IEC 62443 as an implementer.

It's available in English language, and if you don't pass on your first attempt, you get one free retake within 12 months — with reconn, both attempts are included upfront as exam vouchers, so there's nothing extra to buy if you need the second sitting.

ISA/IEC 62443 Lead Implementer Certification Requirements

Passing the exam qualifies you for a credential level based on your professional experience — PECB offers four tiers under this certification scheme.

The Provisional Implementer credential requires no professional or project experience, making it the entry point for those just starting out.

The Implementer credential requires 2 years of professional experience, including 1 year in IACS management, plus 200 hours of project experience.

The Lead Implementer credential requires 5 years of professional experience, including 2 years in IACS management, plus 300 hours of project experience.

The Senior Lead Implementer credential requires 10 years of professional experience, including 7 years in IACS management, plus 1,000 hours of project experience.

All levels require signing the PECB Code of Ethics. Qualifying project experience includes activities such as drafting implementation business cases, managing security programs, implementing controls, and monitoring performance — so even without IACS management experience yet, you can earn the Provisional Implementer credential now and upgrade as your experience accumulates.

FAQs

Answers to the questions that actually matter before you launch your learning mission.

Are PECB ISO/IEC 42001 Lead Implementer certifications globally recognized and accredited?

Yes. PECB is an internationally accredited certification body for personnel certifications, operating under recognized frameworks for how individuals are assessed and certified — so this isn't a self-issued credential with no external oversight. Combined with the fact that it's tied directly to the ISA/IEC 62443 series itself (the internationally recognized standard for IACS security), the certification carries the same standing wherever you use it, with employers evaluating candidates against a consistent, standards-based benchmark rather than a proprietary one.

How long does it take to complete the ISA/IEC 62443 Lead Implementer course?

In a live classroom or virtual format, the course runs five full days, ending with the exam on Day 5. With reconn's self-study format, there's no fixed schedule — you work through the same 400+ pages of official material at your own pace. Most self-study candidates complete the course and sit the exam within 3–6 weeks, especially when using the included 1-on-1 guidance session to stay on track, though you can move faster or slower depending on your availability.

How difficult is the PECB ISA/IEC 62443 Lead Implementer exam?

he exam is rigorous by design — it's testing your ability to actually apply the ISA/IEC 62443 standard as an implementer, not just recall definitions, and it covers both foundational IACS security principles and practical application. That said, it's built to be passable by anyone who works through the official courseware properly: it's not designed as a trick exam. If you're not confident after your first attempt, your training fee already includes a free retake within 12 months — and with reconn, both attempts come as vouchers upfront, plus unlimited support until you pass, so there's no added cost or pressure if you need the second sitting.
